An electric vehicle is one of the cheapest cars you can run – but only if you charge at home. Public rapid chargers can cost more than petrol, while a home charger paired with solar or an off-peak tariff can run your daily commute for the price of a pint of milk.
We install a wide range of OZEV-listed smart chargers, from the slimline Zappi V2 and Ohme ePod to the Easee Charge and Hypervolt Home 3. Every charger we fit talks directly to your home solar system, so if the sun is generating power your car uses it first. Anything left over is exported – or stored in your battery.
Most Welsh homes have a single-phase 80A or 100A incoming supply. That comfortably supports a 7.4kW charger, which will add roughly 25 miles of range every hour. If you have a three-phase supply (common on larger rural properties and commercial premises) we can install up to 22kW chargers – over 70 miles of range per hour.

Installation – what to expect
After your free survey we will book a half-day slot at your convenience. On the day, our OZEV-approved electrician will mount the charger, run armoured cable from your consumer unit, install an isolator and Type A RCBO and notify the DNO under G100 if required.
We test, commission and register the charger on the manufacturer app while you make a cup of tea. You will be driving on solar miles before lunch.

Choosing the right EV charger for your home
Three or four years ago there were essentially two domestic chargers worth considering. Today there are a dozen, each with strengths and weaknesses. Our most popular Welsh installs are the myenergi Zappi V2 (gold standard for solar households), Ohme ePod (best value and most attractive for kerbside use) and Easee Charge (compact, modular and great for shared driveways).
Tesla owners often request the Tesla Wall Connector but in our experience the third-party chargers above offer better solar integration and broader app support. Whichever you choose, we will install it the same way: tidy cable runs, proper bonding, RCBO protection and full notification under G98 or G99 as required.
Future-proofing your installation
An EV charger is a long-term piece of kit – we expect ours to last 12-15 years. With that timeline in mind, we always specify our installs with future expansion in mind. Where possible we install a higher-rating cable so a 7kW unit can later be uprated to 22kW (three-phase) without re-trenching, and we leave space in the consumer unit for a second charger or solar isolator.
Welsh homes with off-street parking are excellent candidates for a future-proofed install. Speak to our designer about cable sizing if you might add a second EV, an air-source heat pump or a larger battery within the next five years.

How much does a home EV charger cost?
Most domestic Welsh Solar installs are £899-£1,299 fully fitted depending on charger model and cable run. Off-street parking is required.
Can I charge my EV from solar?
Yes – we specialise in solar-aware chargers that automatically divert surplus PV to your car. Adding a charger to an existing solar system is straightforward.
Do I need planning permission?
No, EV chargers are permitted development providing the unit is below 0.2m³ and not facing a highway in a conservation area.
How long does installation take?
Typically 3-4 hours for a standard install. Complex cable runs or fuse-board upgrades can take a full day.
Is there still a government grant?
The domestic EVHS grant has closed for most homeowners but the EV chargepoint grant remains for flats, rentals and businesses. We will check your eligibility for free.
