About Welsh Solar

We are Wales' largest independent solar PV, battery and EV charging installer. Family-founded in 2014, MCS-certified, headquartered in Bridgend with a second depot in Caernarfon.

Every member of our 38-strong team lives within an hour of a Welsh customer. That is a deliberate choice – we are local, accountable and proud of it.

Our story

Welsh Solar was founded in 2014 by Rhys Morgan and Lowri Davies, two Bridgend-based engineers who had spent a decade working on offshore wind and large-scale PV projects. They came back to land with a simple idea: take the same engineering rigour applied to multi-megawatt commercial projects and make it available to ordinary Welsh families.

From a single van and a workshop in the Llynfi Valley, the business grew quickly. By 2018 we had installed our 500th domestic system. In 2021 we opened our second depot in Caernarfon to serve North Wales. By 2024 we had completed over 2,000 installations and the team had grown to 38 employees.

Today we are one of the most-reviewed solar companies in Wales with an average rating of 4.8 stars across Google, Trustpilot, Checkatrade and TrustATrader. Almost a third of our work now comes from customer referrals – the highest compliment in our industry.

What makes us different

The UK solar market is full of companies that subcontract installation, change name every couple of years and disappear when the warranty claim arrives. Welsh Solar does the opposite of all three.

We employ every engineer directly – no labour-only subcontractors, no agency labour, no "approved installers" who actually do the job. The person who quotes you is the person who designs your system, and that person works alongside our installation team in the same office every day.

We have traded under the same name and same directors since 2014. We are based in Wales, pay our taxes in Wales and bank in Wales. When a warranty claim arrives, we are still here to handle it.

And we measure ourselves on aftercare, not initial sales. Around 35% of our installations now come from customer referrals – which only happens if we keep doing right by people years after the install was completed.

Our commitment to Wales

Welsh Solar pays the Real Living Wage to every employee and apprentice. We are a Carbon Trust signatory and operate a fully electric service fleet. Every installation we complete is reviewed for carbon payback as part of our internal sustainability reporting.

We sponsor the Bridgend RFC mini-rugby section, the Caernarfon Town junior football academy and contribute annually to the Wales Air Ambulance. In 2024 we donated and installed solar PV at four community buildings across Wales – including the village halls in Llanddewi-Brefi and Bethesda – through our Welsh Communities programme.

We also support Cymraeg in business: our Welsh-speaking customers are served by Welsh-speaking staff in Welsh, and our website is fully translated into Cymraeg. Energy is fundamental to Welsh life and we want every Welsh home and business to have the option of generating its own.

Our commitment to Wales and to our customers

Welsh Solar exists because we believe Wales has an extraordinary opportunity to lead the renewable energy transition. Our hills, valleys, and coasts are home to communities that have powered the United Kingdom for generations, first through coal and now through wind, water, and increasingly the sun. We are proud to play a small part in that next chapter.

We invest in apprenticeships, train local installers, and source from UK and European suppliers wherever possible to keep value in the regional economy. We are a Living Wage employer, and we contribute time and equipment to community projects across Wales, including schools, sports clubs, and village halls looking to lower their running costs through solar.

Above all, we are accountable to the people who trust us with their homes and businesses. Every member of our team understands that a solar installation is a long-term decision, and that the test of a good installer is not just what the system looks like on day one, but how it performs and is supported in year ten and year twenty. That is the standard we hold ourselves to on every job.
